Streamer iShowSpeed Draws Massive Crowds in Harare

By CloutBase – Harare | January 7, 2026

Harare’s central business district was thrown into rare disarray on Tuesday as American YouTube star Darren Jason Watkins Jr, widely known as iShowSpeed, made a headline-grabbing appearance in the capital as part of his ongoing African tour.

Zimbabwe was thrust into the global digital spotlight following the influencer’s arrival, with the Harare leg of his visit generating more than one million livestream views in under seven hours. The tour, branded Speed Does Africa, is scheduled to span 20 African countries over 28 days and has already attracted widespread attention across the continent.

IShowSpeed, who arrived in Zimbabwe on Monday night, drew massive crowds as he moved through the CBD, prompting many onlookers to abandon their workstations to catch a glimpse of the global internet personality. Traffic slowed significantly as pedestrians filled the streets, filming and cheering while his convoy passed through the city.

Accompanied by comedian and social media personality Chief Ben, who appeared to act as his local guide, the streamer made his first stop at the iconic Mbuya Nehanda statue. There, he was welcomed by musicians Hope Masike and Silent Nqo, who introduced him to traditional Zimbabwean music and culture. The visit included a live mbira performance, with iShowSpeed briefly learning to play the instrument, offering viewers a rare blend of global pop culture and local heritage.

Security was visibly heightened throughout the tour, with police officers and private bouncers forming cordons around the influencer as crowds swelled. Access for journalists and local content creators was restricted at some stops, including the Mbuya Nehanda monument, as authorities sought to manage the large turnout.

Travelling in a convoy of luxury vehicles—including a Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons reportedly owned by prominent local figures—iShowSpeed continued his tour through key city landmarks. At the Trabablas Interchange, another major crowd magnet, he participated in an impromptu challenge led by Chido Maenzanise, further amplifying the spectacle around his visit.

The first day of activities concluded at the popular Queen of Hearts restaurant, where the streamer sampled local cuisine, sharing the experience with his online audience. Additional local socialites later joined the entourage as the tour of Harare progressed.

The Zimbabwe stop follows earlier visits to South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique and Botswana, all of which have drawn similar public enthusiasm.
