Oriyano: Zimbabwe’s Rising Star Humbled by Jah Prayzah Comparisons
Kudakwashe Royne Kachehiko, better known as Oriyano, is quickly becoming a household name in Zimbabwean music. The young artist’s rise, marked by chart-topping hits like “Makarima Mupoto,” “Super Glue,” and “Areka” featuring Nyasha David, has sparked fervent comparisons to music icon Jah Prayzah.
Oriyano’s multifaceted talent extends beyond music, encompassing fashion design, pencil art, poetry, motor mechanics, and beatboxing. However, it’s his musical prowess that has captured the nation’s attention, leading to the flattering comparisons.
While acknowledging the honor, Oriyano remains grounded, viewing Jah Prayzah as a mentor rather than a rival. “Jah Prayzah is an icon, and it would be unwise to claim that I am at his level,” Oriyano stated. “I respect him and am willing to learn from him.”
He further emphasized his appreciation for his fans’ support. “Fans comparing me to Jah Prayzah are entitled to their opinions, but I am not at his level. What I enjoy most is the support I receive from my fans, who wish me well in my journey.”
Adding to the intrigue, Oriyano will be performing at this year’s National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), where he will share the stage with Jah Prayzah. This highly anticipated performance will provide a unique opportunity for audiences to witness the rising star sharing the stage with an established legend.
