As the year winds down, Zimbabwe’s comedy king Mukudzei ‘King Kandoro’ Majoni is gearing up for a December road trip of laughter with the State of the Nation Comedy Tour — a four-city laugh marathon that promises to roast, reflect, and remind everyone just how hilariously chaotic 2025 has been.

Taking a cue from presidential State of the Nation Addresses (SONAs), Kandoro’s version — a “comedic press conference for the people” — will roll through Bulawayo (Dec 6), Johannesburg (Dec 14), Cape Town (Dec 15), and Harare (Dec 20). Tickets are reportedly selling fast, with nearly two-thirds already gone on kingkandorolive.com.

“The State of the Nation tour is an irreverent and satirical summary of the crazy year that 2025 was,” reads the official press statement — and if there’s one thing Zimbabweans can agree on, 2025 has been a comedy sketch all on its own.

But this isn’t just another stand-up show. It’s Kandoro’s humorous diary of a nation, stitched together with political gaffes, fuel queues, forex frustrations, and the unbreakable Zimbabwean knack for finding laughter in struggle.

Joining Kandoro on stage are regional heavyweights Hillary Okello from Uganda and Vafa Naraghi from South Africa — a continental collaboration transforming what began as a local tour into an African showcase of wit. Kandoro hopes this marks “the beginning of an annual comedy gathering that brings regional and international humor to Zimbabwe’s doorstep.”

Back home, the two-time NAMA Award winner is also using his growing platform to uplift new talent. Through his New School Comedy Club, a grassroots initiative grooming fresh comics nationwide, Kandoro is giving back to the scene that shaped him — while exporting Zimbabwean humor to wider audiences.

It has been a standout year for the comedian. In August, he headlined the Nairobi International Comedy Festival before stealing the spotlight at Shoko Festival 2025. Offstage, Kandoro expanded his creative empire with PaGrowth Point, a hit YouTube game show blending humor and family life, and continued to dominate the digital space with his acclaimed Black & Forth podcast, co-hosted with Munashe Chirisa.

No wonder he’s now affectionately dubbed “Mr. Sold Out” — a nod to his consistent streak of packed venues and electric performances. From theatres to open-air festivals, Kandoro’s shows are guaranteed laughter riots. Yet, the State of the Nation Tour feels grander — not just in scale, but in meaning.
