Jah Prayzah clarifies on image rights issue.

Jah Prayzah has informed event promoters and other media personnel interested in taking videos at his shows that they have to pay for image rights first . He says this is a move to protect his intellectual property and making sure that people who are not deserving, benefit from his sweat .

Media rights and Intellectual Property is an important aspect in the music industry but in the context of Zimbabwe, many people get away with it because of the lack of knowledge and enforcement.

Today’s bloggers can take a video from any platform and put it on theirs without any consequences, likewise any media house can shoot a video of Jah Prayzah’s show and make it theirs without paying anything.

He however allowed fans to use their cellphones:

He said : All my fans are free to use their celephones to take memories of themselves and my performance. However kana wakuuya ne PROFESSIONAL camera rato drama CONTENT IS MONEY. Pay first! Promoters when you book for my services please keep this in Mind

This move by Jah Prayzah is a step in a good direction as it ensures exclusivity of distribution which may assist in monetization of his content. Artists in Zimbabwe do not earn much through image rights as they ought to ,such measures can ensure this .

On the other hand many people are crying that he is being selfish and should allow his content to go out there , one author once wrote ,”Fame without money , is useless”. Going out there should equate to what’s coming in and without this balance ,artists will suffer.
