As preparations for the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) 2026 gather momentum, several Zimbabwean artists are already emerging as early front-runners based on their impact, consistency, and cultural relevance over the past year.

While official nominations are yet to be announced, industry observers and music audiences have highlighted a group of artists whose work has dominated charts, stages, and public discourse in 2025, positioning them strongly ahead of the awards season.

Among them is Jah Prayzah, who continues to set the benchmark with hit releases, high-budget visuals, and sold-out performances, reinforcing his status as one of Zimbabwe’s most commercially successful artists. Winky D has also remained culturally influential, with socially conscious music and lyrical depth that continues to resonate with a broad audience.

In the hip-hop space, Holy Ten has remained highly visible, driven by outspoken commentary, consistent releases, and strong online engagement, keeping him at the centre of national conversations. Feli Nandi has maintained steady growth through soulful yet contemporary music, backed by solid performances and an expanding fan base.

Veteran artist Freeman HKD has sustained his presence through street anthems and consistency, retaining strong nationwide support, while Nutty O has continued to push Zimbabwean music onto international platforms with a polished sound aimed at global audiences.

Although the NAMA process officially begins later, the visibility and performance of these artists throughout the year has already placed them among those to watch as the 2026 awards approach.

The National Arts Merit Awards recognise excellence across Zimbabwe’s creative industries, with winners determined through a combination of adjudication and public engagement. As anticipation builds, attention is expected to intensify around which artists will convert momentum into nominations — and ultimately, trophies.
