Makhadzi Accuses Former Management of Withholding Royalties
South African music sensation Makhadzi has raised alarm over what she describes as exploitation by her former management, claiming they are allegedly collecting her publishing royalties without her consent. The star, who parted ways with Open Mic Productions last year, revealed her frustrations in a candid Facebook post this week.
Makhadzi said she was shocked to discover that new entities, allegedly linked to her former management, are benefiting financially from her music. According to her, after her fallout with Open Mic she never signed any publishing deal, but only entered into a distribution agreement with Africori. “I never signed a publishing deal with any company. I only signed a distribution deal with Africori,” she wrote.
The singer further alleged that her former management at Open Mic Productions has since formed a new company called Nazo, in partnership with Mukima Production, which she claims is working with another entity under the banner of Virgin Music Group. She accused the companies of collecting her publishing royalties without her knowledge or approval.
“While preparing for my album, I just found out that my old management Open Mic opened a company called Nazo in partnership with Mukima Production that works with Virgin Music Group. The two companies are busy collecting my publishing royalties without my knowledge,” she said, adding that she feels unfairly targeted.
Makhadzi, known for hits such as Ghanama and Matorokisi, expressed her frustration, saying she simply wants to focus on her career without interference. “I don’t know at this point what you want from me. I am not bothering anyone, I am just doing my things,” she said.
