Popular Zimbabwean comedian Marabha has died.

Popular Zimbabwean comedian and actor Charles Mapalume, widely known as Marabha, has died.

The beloved funnyman died in the early hours of this morning at Harare Hospital, leaving fans and colleagues heartbroken.

Tributes poured in across social media as news of his death spread, with fellow comedian and actor Shugeta confirming the loss. “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved brother and friend Charles Mapalume, also known as Marabha. He passed away this morning at Harare Hospital. Fly High, King,” he wrote.

Marabha rose to fame through his hilarious skits and memorable roles in local dramas, earning a loyal fan base with his wit and relatable humor. Actress Regina, his co-star in the drama What Comes Around Goes Around, shared her grief in a touching post: “Wandirwadzisa umwe wangu, wandisiira rondapamoyo. May your soul rest in peace, Marabha.”

A particularly emotional tribute came from Prince Ngoni Kelvin, a fellow patient who shared a hospital ward with Marabha. In a heartbreaking Facebook post, he revealed the comedian’s struggles and their bond during their time in the hospital:

“It breaks my heart till my soul cries—Marabha is no more. He passed around 4 am. We were both admitted in Harare Hospital, Ward B7—me on bed 9, him on bed 10. Despite our pain, we shared laughter and food because no one ever brought him meals. I stepped in because I felt his pain.”

Prince Ngoni recounted their daily interactions, where Marabha would jokingly ask, “Sahwira wangu, tadya here? Tikudyei?” (My friend, have we eaten? What are we eating?)—moments of humor amid suffering. He also revealed the financial struggles Marabha faced, with few visitors and no one bringing him food, making his final days even more difficult.

“Today, he just said, ‘Sahwira, ndaenda’ (My friend, I’m gone). My heart is wounded. In these two weeks in the hospital, I found a brother I loved and cared for. As I fight for my own life, I won’t be able to attend your funeral… but you’ve left me in deep pain, my friend.”

Details about Marabha’s funeral arrangements are yet to be announced. As Zimbabwe grieves, his legacy of laughter and resilience remains etched in the hearts of many.
