Pastor Alistar Chibanda has publicly apologised to the organisers of Doek and Slay after being arrested yesterday in connection with controversial comments he made about the women-centered lifestyle event.

This comes after the Doek and Slay team issued a statement concerning the circulation of sustained false and defamatory information attributed to the perpetrator.

“We would like to advise our community and the public that the matter has been formally reported to law enforcement authorities.

“Doek and slay is a registered and legally protected trademark and we remain firm in our commitment to safeguarding our brand, our patrons and our stakeholders. Any attempts to misrepresent, defame or unlawfully exploit our brand will not be taken lightly,” reads the statement.

Chibanda came under heavy criticism after he made what many described as nasty, derogatory and cyber bullying remarks directed to women who attend Doek and Slay.

The man of cloth made a series of social media posts, including pictures and videos, where the man of cloth reportedly demonized the all-women’s gathering, labeling the event as ungodly or diabolical.

He further said men who are comfortable with their partners attending wild parties such as Doek and Slay often reveal a lack of leadership in their households where decision making power has shifted away from them, affecting their judgment and authority.

The comments sparked widespread outrage on social media with calls for accountability growing louder in recent days.

Following his arrest, the pastor issued a written apology addressed to the management of Doek and Slay admitting that his conduct was wrong and harmful.

“My words and conduct were wrong, disrespectful and completely unjustified,” Chibanda said, acknowledging that his statements caused distress to the organisers, participants and women who are the loyal fans of this event.

He further recognised Doek and Slay as a platform that uplifts, empowers and celebrates women conceding that his actions undermined those values.

“There is no excuse for cyber bullying or for language that demeans or disrespects women,” he said, adding that he was ashamed of the impact of his remarks.

Chibanda said he is committed to learning from the incident and engaging more responsibly on public platforms, describing his apology as a genuine expression of remorse for the damage caused to the Doek and Slay brand and its community.

The apology comes shortly after the Harare Mega Doek and Slay, which had a large turnout.
