NORTON Legislator Honorable Richard Tsvangirai has written a letter to the acting town secretary for Norton town council seeking permission to convert Chelsea creche into a youth center.
In a letter dated 27 October 2023 Tsvangirai said he believes his proposal could significantly benefit the Norton community, more importantly as a solution to drug and substance abuse.
“The Chelsea creche located in Katanga is a space that holds potential for a much needed community service. I am proposing that we repurpose the building into a youth center, a place where our young people can gather, learn, and grow in a safe and supportive environment. This will prevent the youth from turning to drugs and substance abuse which has ruined the community,” he said.
Tsvangirai added a generation may be lost if drug and substance abuse is not eradicated
“We are on the verge of losing a whole generation to drug and substance abuse. It’s high time we act and come up with solutions to stop this. This is why I have written to the Council asking for permission to repurpose council buildings into youth centres, as this will help to reduce the demand of drugs and give the youth a place where they can be productive and learn new skills,” said Tsvangirai.
