Zimbabwean television drama Magweja is set to reach new regional audiences after securing a broadcast deal with Crown TV Zambia, marking a historic first for Magamba Network as it takes one of its productions beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

The award-winning series will premiere on the Zambian channel on Monday, March 16 at 19:30, giving viewers in the neighbouring country a chance to experience the gripping drama that has been widely praised for its storytelling and social commentary.

The milestone comes on the back of a major achievement for the production after Magweja won Outstanding Screen Production at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) 2025, further cementing its place among Zimbabwe’s most celebrated television productions. The recognition highlighted the show’s artistic excellence and the strong cultural resonance of its narrative.

Set against the complex and often overlooked world of Zimbabwe’s extractive sector, the series explores the realities of artisanal miners and the communities that depend on the industry for survival. Through its storytelling, Magweja sheds light on the struggles, resilience and human cost associated with life in mining communities — stories that have rarely received attention in mainstream media.

The partnership with Crown TV Zambia is seen as a strategic step that expands the reach of the series while opening conversations about issues that affect mining communities across the region. Director of the series Dereck Nziyakwi said the recognition at the national awards had reaffirmed the creators’ belief in the story’s broader relevance.

Nziyakwi noted that the NAMA recognition confirmed that Magweja is a story capable of resonating beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, adding that bringing the production to Zambia through Crown TV represents the beginning of a new conversation with audiences across the region.
