Trevor Dongo’s Fiery Scandal: Arrest, Ex-Lover Rumors, and a Social Media Storm Rock Zimbabwe’s Music Scene

Zimbabwean Afro-soul sensation Trevor Dongo isn’t just fighting flames—he’s battling legal woes and explosive rumors after a blaze gutted his Harare apartment, landed him in handcuffs, and ignited a vicious social media feud. But was this a case of arson, revenge, or a career-threatening setup?

Trevor Dongo, the Ndozviita Sei crooner, was arrested Wednesday at Harare Central Police Station and charged with malicious damage to property following a fire that obliterated his rented CBD apartment. The musician, accompanied by lawyer Dumisani Mthombeni, signed a “warned and cautioned” statement before release but insists he’s innocent: “I wasn’t even home when it started,” he told authorities.

While Dongo claims he rushed into the burning building to salvage belongings—suffering burns and losing studio gear, designer clothes, and critical documents—the plot thickened when gossip blogs alleged a jealous ex-lover torched the apartment after catching him with another woman.

Dongo blasted the claims in a since-deleted Facebook rant, accusing media of “toxicity” and fabricating stories for clicks:
“Fabricated stories are circulating… all lies for monetization. Those close to me know the truth.”

The complainant? Dongo’s landlord, who alleges the fire caused structural damage worth thousands. Police remain tight-lipped on evidence linking Dongo to the blaze, but legal experts note Zimbabwe’s strict property laws could mean jail time if convicted.

Fans flooded Twitter (#JusticeForTrevor) defending the star: “He’s being framed!” tweeted @DongoDevotee. Meanwhile, Harare insiders speculate deeper drama. “Trevor’s had rocky relationships,” a source close to the musician revealed. “But this feels targeted—someone wants him cancelled.”

With no court date set, Dongo’s team plans to counter-sue for defamation over the ex-lover rumors. Yet the damage is done: his upcoming album launch hangs in limbo, and brands are quietly scrubbing his endorsements from ads.
